Eating Healthy on a Budget

(Newswire.net — May 4, 2018) Cheyenne, Wyoming — Healthy eating doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. There are so many of ways to cut costs without compromising on quality. It may take some strategic planning to stay within budget but it absolutely can be done if it’s really something one seriously wishes to do. Here’s a brief guide courtesy of Healthline.com on how to approach eating like a king even while on a budget.

Seasonal items are always cheaper than other stuff, that’s a rule of thumb with regards to most if not all food items. Stocking up on everything by freezing the perishables as they’re available within seasons is the best bet for securing quality products at the lowest prices.

Purchasing hefty quantities of grains, nuts and similar items then slowly using it throughout the month is an economical way to shop. This concept could also be used for buying fruits and vegetables which are typically flash frozen at their freshest.

Discounts! Discounts! Discounts! Who doesn’t love a discount?! Making supermarket runs with a stack of coupons in tow isn’t anything to be ashamed of. They want them to be used, that’s why they were made and issued. The only thing better than coupons is being able to cash in on coupons during a sale – that’s like the clouds parting and angels signing for such glorious moments. Also remember to note special offers and strategically buy some stuff then.

Perusing a farmers market as often as possible is another clever tecnique as things are always dirt cheap when coming directly from the grower versus from a supermarket which inflates prices to cover larger overhead costs. So the air conditioner, the automatic doors, the building maintenance, staffing, etc. are all factored into supermarket prices which isn’t a bad thing if one can afford to pay it. While on a tight budget, supporting the farmers market is the best bet.

Put down the credit cards and walk with only cash. Self-control and discipline is something to be exercised here and part of this strategy is to ensure only the essentials are purchased. So make a list, stick to it and if all else fails when at the checkout, it will suddenly click that taking up that large jar of pickles wasn’t worth losing out on bread, cheese and beans. Lesson learned: stick to the list and spend only the cash at hand.

Lastly, seriously consider buying more plant-based proteins than animal products. This isn’t some vegan pitch now, it’s simply a suggestion based on economics. Meat is more expensive than plants so since the budget is a concern but quality is still of the utmost importance, it’s rather wise to secure the nutrients the body needs from the most cost-effective source, that being plants. Getting a variety of stuff helps keep one’s palette interested, so explore quinoa, lentils, tempeh and nut butters on the next shopping trip.

“The most effective way to balance your pH is to eat lot of nutrient-dense, alkalizing plant foods and to limit your intake of processed foods,” explains DrAxe.com. “Because so many different factors — gut health, stress, sleep, medications and medical history — also affect your internal pH level, other lifestyle habits can also be helpful for restoring balance.”

Fueling the body properly is important and understanding how one’s body pH level responds to food is an essential step in self-care. Doing frequent tests with an accurate product such as the HealthyWiser™ pH Test Strips is highly advised as it provides fast and reliable results from either saliva or urine samples. Additionally, diabetics should specifically monitor their ketones level as it’s an acid and excess ketones in the blood can lead to diabetic ketoacidosis which can lead to death if not caught in the early stages.
