Scientists Now Reveal the Link Between Anger and Heart Disease

(Newswire.net — May 10, 2018) Orlando, FL — Anger can be felt by anyone at any time. However, more and more researchers do not merely think of it as a response of certain triggers, such as insults or bad situations.

According to some experts, there is actually a strong connection between the heart and brain in times of anger. In studies, men who become angry easily and quickly are more susceptible to developing premature heart disease.

In these studies, it was also revealed that they are more susceptible to an early heart attack by five times. This was shown in the findings of a 36-year study at John’s Hopkins, which involved over 1,300 medical students.

The subjects in the study would become angry quickly in periods of stress.

Leo Pozuelo, MD, section head of Consultation Psychiatry and staff at the Heart and Vascular Institute, says that in the 1970s, we were focused on the hyper ‘Type A’ personality and we hypothesized that this was bad for the heart.

“Over time and study, we’ve come to find that it is the specific characteristic of anger – or hostility – that stresses the heart and leads to an eventual cardiac event,” he added.

Dr. Pozuelo reveals the four specific body mechanisms that occur with the stress/anger response. They are increased levels of cortisol, increased reactivity of the platelets, increased inflammatory markers, and alterations of the natural autonomic tone that we have in the heart.

The researcher believes that it can be difficult for people to make changes when they are used to keeping things inside. It is also linked with men and that social inhibition is associated with cardiac disease.

Scientists reveal the elements of cardiac rehabilitation, namely diet changes, exercise, and of course stress management techniques. A good program addresses anger issues, and it does so by increasing the physical activity of the patient. It also teaches ways to manage stress.

More studies are still underway to validate the link between anger and heart disease. However, men are strongly advised to resort to all the necessary measures to stay calm and protect their heart health.

Having healthy diet and lifestyle has long been recognized to be one of the best ways to take care of the heart and body. There are nutrients in healthy foods that can significantly improve protection against diseases.
