ALACCSA Wins Silver at 2018 Cataract Surgery Olympics

(Newswire.net — May 3, 2018) — The Latin American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons (LASCRS-ALACCSA) won two best of papers at the prestigious Olympics Session of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS) meeting this year in late April. The 2018 Cataract Surgery Olympics were moderated by Dr. David Chang. ALACCSA also received the silver medal on overall presentations only behind the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), who walked away with the gold.

The ASCRS is considered by many in the field, among the best meetings of Cataract and Refractive surgeons around the globe. The participating Olympic teams included the (ASCRS) American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, (ESCRS) European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, (APASCRS) Asia-Pacific Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons, and (ALACCSA-LASCRS) Latin American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons.

Dr. William De La Pena M.D. (Chairman of ALACCSA) said, ”The thorough case presentations by ALACCSA in this extremely competitive program show the quality of the work being done in Latin America.”

ALACCSA won best of presentations in two of the four categories.
