(Newswire.net — May 15, 2018) Orlando, FL — Death is inevitable, but there are individuals who are thought to be more at risk of it. These are those who suffer from certain types of diseases and disorders. Cardiovascular and respiratory deaths are believed to be more common in RA sufferers.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune condition that affects millions of people today. As a matter of fact in the United States alone, this condition is second to osteoarthritis as the most prevalent arthritis condition.

The researchers from the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) reveal that there has been a significant increase in the overall risk of death in rheumatoid arthritis sufferers. It was the Nurses’ Health Study data that the researchers based the study and findings on. The data assessed more than 100,000 female registered nurses since 1976. It has further been found that the risk of death was associated with respiratory or cardiovascular causes. Due to the findings of the study, the researchers suggest that RA sufferers should try to monitor their respiratory and cardiovascular symptoms. This is especially true to those who are seropositive.

According to Jeffrey Sparks, MD, MMSc, a physician in BWH’s Division of Rheumatology, Immunology and Allergy, rheumatoid arthritis could be associated with increased mortality and this is based on previous studies. It is however important to understand that the researchers were unable to control other variables. For instance, one variable is smoking, which affects both rheumatoid arthritis and the risk of mortality. The researchers successfully collected more information in the study. This is due to the fact that the subjects have been followed for a long period and the Nurse’s Health Study has been considered to be huge.

The researchers followed the participants before and after the diagnosis. The health behaviors of the subjects were also taken into account. They have been able to see the specific causes of death. Through resorting to all these steps, the researchers were able to find strong evidence that led them to suggest rheumatoid arthritis has the potential to increase the risk of cardiovascular and respiratory death. As mentioned, researchers have considered factors that potentially contributed to the increased risk of mortality. It is worth remembering that there are certain pain medications used by rheumatoid arthritis sufferers that cause side effects, which are detrimental to overall health.

The good news is that there are certain safer remedies, such as glucosamine, that have been found to be a safer alternative to these medications. Arthritis sufferers may consider using Divine Bounty’s glucosamine supplements, which are quite popular these days.
