( — May 31, 2018) Orlando, FL — Engaging in exercise is beneficial for health, and is also needed for human survival. This is due to the fact that living a sedentary lifestyle can increase the risk of diseases and disorders.

Researchers have been conducting studies to explore more of the benefits that exercise could potentially offer.

According to a new research, exercise can also keep the eyes in good shape too. Eye health is extremely important for obvious reasons. This is why many health care providers strongly recommend following a healthy diet and lifestyle to take better care of our eyes.

In the annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the scientists analyzed data coming from a large national survey.

This survey followed the nutrition and health of American adults since the 1960s, particularly for the purpose of establishing a link between eye health and exercise intensity.

Scientists found that those who engaged in moderate to vigorous exercise had a reduction in the risk of glaucoma as they aged by 73 percent. They also found that for each 10-minute increase in activity added per week, there was a drop in the risk of eye disease by 25 percent.

Study co-author Victoria L. Tseng, M.D., Ph.D., an ophthalmologist at the University of California, Los Angeles, says that this research suggests that exercising may not just potentially reduce glaucoma risk, but also that those with increased speed decrease their risk of the condition better than those with low speeds.

Exercise is a general health-enhancing activity. It can be significantly helpful in protecting the body against diseases and disorders that a sedentary lifestyle could cause.

Men are advised to stay physically active to protect their eye health. It is worth mentioning that in some studies, it was found men are at an increased risk of certain medical conditions.

This condition is considered to be the leading cause of blindness. What makes it even more alarming is that it has no cure yet. It also doesn’t cause symptoms so sufferers are normally not forewarned.

Estimates reveal that more than 3 million people in the United States have glaucoma, but only half of the number of sufferers know they have it. It is wise to take preventive measures in fighting this condition.
