(Newswire.net — May 30, 2018) Cedar Hill, TX — In the wake of several school shootings in the United States, school districts across the country are scrambling to find solutions. One of the ways schools are addressing student safety is by employing on-campus law enforcement personnel. Specialized active-shooter training is a must for these security professionals. Matt Antkowiak, CEO and co-founder of Tier One – Secure Campuses, announced that his company would be offering basic certification courses for school resource officers (SROs) and school security officers (SSOs) starting July 30, 2018. The four-day certification courses run through August 2, and the per-course cost has been reduced to a summer rate of $225 for law enforcement professionals. “School security training encompasses actions both on and off campus,” says Matt, who has almost three decades of security experience. The July 30-August 2 courses meet all requirements for the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) School-Based Law Enforcement Proficiency Certificate. All Texas Peace Officers in attendance at the courses will be granted 40 hours of continuing education credits. Numerous topics will be covered, including:
- Active shooter response tactics (individual SRO/SSO)
- SRO/SSO roles and responsibilities
- Understanding and interacting with traumatized and at-risk students
- Safety and security audits
- Emergency planning
- Participating within an academic environment
- Off-site security considerations
- School-centered policing and security
- Emergency response/emergency management
- Special event and extracurricular activity security considerations
Tier One stands apart from other companies that provide law enforcement training. The company has brought together a diverse group of professionals, including EMTs, firefighters, police officers and physicians, giving course attendees a range of experiences to draw from. Most of the training is conducted on school campuses and at facilities like churches and office buildings. “We believe that in force-on-force training, training should be conducted where the fight is expected to occur,” adds Matt Antkowiak. “Through partnerships with school districts and property managers, we are able to provide incredibly realistic training scenarios that prepare responders to meet real-world challenges – which in today’s society may necessarily include taking a handgun into a rifle fight with the intentions of dealing with an armed child.”
Matt and Tier One will be providing a full slate of training programs throughout the summer. In addition to the basic certification course for SSOs/SROs, Matt’s company will also offer Active Shooter Incident (ASI) Response and Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security Level 3 and Level 4 certification courses.
