(Newswire.net — June 12, 2018) Orlando, FL — Health experts have long been warning consumers against the dangers of excessively consuming alcohol. Worldwide, it appears that more and more people are still drinking this beverage at a dangerous level.

In a new study, the researchers looked at the blood stem cells. It reveals details about certain mechanisms by which alcohol consumption elevates the risk of cancer development.

Scientists have made it known that alcohol increases the risk of no less than seven types of cancer. This includes mouth, upper throat (pharynx), voice box (laryngeal), esophageal, breast, liver and bowel cancer.

In most former studies, the investigators tried to examine the cells in the laboratory after alcohol exposure.

The researchers from MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, United Kingdom have also conducted a study.

They aimed at obtaining a clearer picture of the relationship between alcohol and cancer involving whole animals.

It was the Cancer Research U.K. that funded the study, which was published in the journal called Nature.

In this research, the investigators fed mice with diluted ethanol. Chromosome analysis and DNA sequencing were used in measuring any damage. Such a damage may be caused by acetaldehyde, which is a chemical manufactured during alcohol processing.

They also concentrated in the blood stem cells, which is a specific cell type. These immature blood cells are found in blood and bone marrow. They can develop into any type of blood cell, such as platelets, white blood cells and red blood cells.

Alcohol is damaging to these cells and faulty stem cells can potentially cause cancer. Breakdown of alcohol in the gut can lead the conversion of bacteria into large quantities of acetaldehyde.

In previous studies, it has actually been found that this chemical caused cancer in animals.

The American Society of Clinical Oncology has provided outlines in the dangers of alcohol.

As Prof. Linda Bauld, from Cancer Research U.K., says that the study highlighted alcohol damage that is more than just a hangover.

Alcohol consumption is advised to be regulated at all times. It is wise to nourish the body with nutrients, than expose it to a variety of unhealthy substances.
