BC Man Reverses Type 2 Diabetes With 120 LB Weight Loss

(Newswire.net — June 10, 2018) New Westminster, BC — On May 30 2018 Tony Jackson, a 63 year old Vancouver, B.C. businessman, received confirmation from his doctor that he had successfully reversed his Type 2 Diabetes. Today, his medical records formally reflect the fact  that he is no longer Diabetic. Three consecutive “gold standard” blood tests over a 9-month period proved the success of Jackson’s unorthodox program — a simple program that also saw him shed 120 lb in 18 months.

Type 2 Diabetes is a problem the body develops — a disease — that causes blood sugar levels to rise higher than normal. The condition increases the risk of many serious health problems; heart attacks and stroke are almost twice as common in T2 Diabetics, for example, and are only 2 of many known health threats. Until recently, it was considered impossible to “reverse” Type 2 Diabetes; the condition was classed as “chronic and progressive.”

Jackson is one of just a handful of people worldwide who have set out independently to eliminate their Diabetes, without the use of any medications, and succeeded.

He documented his strategy and  the entire experience from research to results in an online book and case study  “3 Boxes Ticked – Diabetes Gone.” The “3 Boxes Ticked” is a reference to 3 of the objectives he set out for himself at the start of his research: to reverse Diabetes naturally, without any diabetes medication; record a major weight loss, and one condition he considers essential to success – not being hungry on the journey.

“The diagnosis in 2012 genuinely scared me. I was desperate to improve my condition but It was clear from the very first research I did that the medical profession didn’t really have a good handle on Diabetes 2,” says Jackson. “Just one example, there’s a critical measurement all T2 diabetics know which is called their A1c or HbA1c percentage. It reflects blood sugar levels. I received a good result, one of a series of good results, at the same time a more thorough test indicated I actually had full-blown Type 2 Diabetes. I’m just glad my doctor followed up with that 2nd test or I could have believed I was in a safe zone when I definitely was not. This wasn’t just a lifestyle issue  – I was very much at risk of developing serious problems.”

He continues, “Then I realized that conventional treatments for Type 2 Diabetes were all focused on symptoms, especially lowering blood sugar levels, and none dealt effectively with the deep-rooted core problem behind both Diabetes and obesity. For example a few specialists quietly admit that there is a 98% failure rate for one recommendation that is central to conventional Diabetes management. Others point out that one of the mainstream treatments actually makes the core problem worse. Even the official guidelines for what they consider a healthy diabetic diet are recognized by many specialists as worsening the problem. Meals they consider OK are not OK; they will help maintain insulin resistance.”

Frustrated, Jackson set out to learn everything he could about Type 2 Diabetes. He says it  took more than two hundred hours of digging before he found the answers he was looking for. “And even then,” he says, ”there was some luck involved. None of the answers were in any one place I looked. I stumbled over one of the biggest ‘Game Changers’ in my plan, about burning fat, almost by accident. Without it, I could not have made this program work. I explain in my book exactly how pivotal that single realization was, to everything that followed, and it did not emerge from any medical documents. Later, I found strong medical support for it … but I found the breakthrough itself in the last place you’d expect to look.”

Initially he simply wanted to get better control of his blood sugar. “Time after time I’d find a snake in the grass,” Jackson says. “Just one example: a study comparing types of insulin treatments casually mentioned ‘People generally gained weight on all regimens.’ So at the same time that Type 2’s are being told to lose weight using a diet approach that fails 98% of the time, one of the mainstream treatments aimed at improving a high-risk symptom — trying to reduce blood glucose levels — actually causes fat to accumulate and your body to gain weight!”

Then he uncovered a study, that demonstrated for the first time that Type 2 Diabetes could indeed be reversed. This study has since spawned a great many trials, but at the time it was relatively new and little known.

“This study moved the goalposts for me,” says Jackson. “I read everything about it that I could. I was no longer looking to just lower my blood sugar — now I wanted to reverse my Diabetes entirely.”

But the study, while encouraging, presented 2 challenges for Jackson.

First, the researcher’s strategy was to impose a severely calorie-restricted diet for 8 weeks (now  increased to 12 weeks). Jackson knew that was out of the question for him. “I’m 63,” says Jackson, “I’ve been seriously overweight for more than 30 years, often 300 lb or more. I’ve tried every reduced calorie diet under the sun. Every single one failed eventually, every single one left me cold, tired, miserable and worst of all, urgently hungry 24 hours a day. Ultimately I gained all the weight back, every time, and often gained more than I’d lost. These are the same results reported by almost everyone who has done the same thing, for the past 50 years or so. So I just didn’t see an even more severe diet being realistic for me.”

The second challenge was potentially the most discouraging. The researcher stated his approach was less successful the longer someone had been diagnosed with Diabetes.  “I knew I’d had the core problem for more than 30 years, even though my diagnosis was more recent,” Jackson says. “So I had to find a solution that was just as effective but far less extreme, something it would be easy to stay with. I realized I was going to have to be patient to slowly and steadily reverse the damage that had been worsening for 3 decades. I knew that if it wasn’t easy to do then I’d fail again.”

Jackson’s research paid off. “Out of all the pieces of the puzzle that were on the table I put together an approach that I could slowly tip-toe into, without having to take any big leap of faith. It was completely natural; it didn’t rely on supposedly ‘miracle’ foods or supplements or herbs or drugs. It took advantage of the right type of exercise if I chose to do it, but it didn’t demand exercise in order to get results. It had excellent health credentials, although there were also a lot of myths even among the medical profession that were flat-out wrong.”

Jackson found support from several small communities where pieces of the puzzle had been adopted, often for years, and had even been doctor-recommended. “When I finally put it into practice, I discovered to my relief that the feedback had been entirely right. This approach had none of the negatives I’d experienced before. Instead of being tired, I actually experienced a surge of energy. Instead of feeling miserable, I felt terrific. And I was mentally sharp, all my waking hours, which was a bonus. But most important of all, over 18 months while I dropped 120 lbs I was almost never hungry, and especially I didn’t experience the ‘urgent’ hunger that seriously obese people know so well, and hate so much.”

The health outcomes are naturally a focal point for Jackson today. The reduced risk of stroke, heart disease and of developing Alzheimer’s are priceless. On the day his doctor affirmed his diabetes reversal, Jackson’s blood pressure was recorded as 100 over 70, typical in recent months and a major improvement. The ‘quality of life’ issues associated with losing weight are equally satisfying. Jackson says “So many aspects of daily living are transformed when you drop from 315 lbs to under 200 lbs. But only someone who has been seriously overweight for many years can understand the two most satisfying outcomes of all.”

“The first one is that I am invisible. I am no longer ‘the big guy’ in any gathering of people. I don’t get those sidelong glances that all obese people recognize but never get used to. Now I just blend in. I never realized that anonymity could feel so good!”

The other outcome? “It sounds strange but again, people who have been seriously overweight for years will understand completely when I say ‘hunger does not own me any more.’” Jackson says that what he’s done seems to have reset some broken switches. “The core problem affects many internal functions; so, fixing it brings a host of internal benefits. If I do get hungry it’s not urgent, I can acknowledge it and set it aside. Because it’s simply not a  big deal any more. And when I eat, a signal gets sent that says ‘you’ve eaten enough, stop eating.’” Having a normal person’s response to hunger is something he describes as priceless.
