Top 3 Logo Trends for 2018

(Newswire.net — June 19, 2018) — The face of your business is not you, your business name, your brand, or even the product(s) you provide.

Rather, the face of your business is your logo. It’s how people visually identify your business and then associate its products with it.

According to FlashMarks.com, logos have been used as symbols in mass communication and as a means to convey ownership for thousands of years, going back all the way to Ancient Egypt.

This illustrates how important it is for you to develop a logo for your business that is truly unique, creative, trendy, and that accurately communicates what your business is about.

But the logo industry and all the current logo trends are always constantly shifting. This is because new ideas are constantly developing, and new companies are constantly trying new things.

Here are the top three logo trends for 2018:

Trend #1 – Shapes Are Becoming Simpler (and More Geometric)

Simpler and geometrical shapes are the way to go for 2018, the trend having first emerged decisively in 2017.

Think about any famous logotypes that are out there right now, such as Google or Samsung. Notice how simple and balanced they both are with their lettering.

You’ll definitely want to keep your own logo simple, but if you incorporate any shapes in it besides lettering, you’ll want those shapes to be geometric. The reason geometric shapes are so widely used is because of how timeless and elegant they are (such as triangles, parallelograms, hexagons, octagons, etc.)

Yes, you are limited with the number of different geometric shapes that are out there. But that just provides you and the designer team you’re working with to get even more creative, since you can play with shapes and curves to layer them together and such. Plus, you can also make effective use of negative space, which we’ll talk about next.

Trend #2 – Negative Space Is Being Used More Minimally

Negative space is commonly thought of as being a bad thing. The very term ‘negative space’ conjures up, well, not-so positive feelings or thoughts.

But the truth is that there have been an increasing number of business and branding logos that use negative space in recent years, and that’s only been continuing to grow in 2018.

But negative space isn’t used for the sake of having negative space, or else the look of your logo is going to suffer. Rather, it’s used by shifting and layering curves, shapes, and letters together, or by placing shapes and letters inside other shapes and letters, to create the negative space in-between.

Trend #3 – The Brighter the Colors, the Better

Another big trend with logos that has developed in recent years has been for them to have brighter and more saturated colors. Have you noticed an increase in brightly colored logos yourself?

But not just any bright color is the norm for 2018. Specifically, colors that are brighter and more intense but that also fade from a denser or darker color into a lighter one, or from one shade to another, are the way to go.

In other words, you won’t just want to use, say, yellow and light blue and call yourself good to go. It may be wiser to only stick with blue but to play around with the different shading options instead.

Logo Trends for 2018

As was noted previously, trends are always changing, so it can be difficult to keep up with the times. The trends that we just covered for 2018 will most likely not exist a couple of years down the road, as by then they will have evolved into new trends entirely (and subsequently, the basic design behind logos will be different).

But what’s more important than ‘keeping up with the times’ is developing a logo that naturally fits your business. It’s far more important to have a logo that fits well with your brand identity or makes it clear what your business is about than it is to make sure that every little nook and cranny of your logo is keeping up with the trends of the current year.

In other words, while it’s certainly a good thing to be aware of all the recent logo trends so you can incorporate them, what’s most important of all is that you design a logo that truly represents your business.
