(Newswire.net — July 10, 2018) Orlando, FL — More and more researchers and clinicians are conducting studies to learn more about sleep and sleep problems. In a recent research, scientists were able to gain more insight regarding sleeping sickness.

In an international study, it was found that a circadian rhythm disorder is one of Africa’s most lethal diseases. This condition is caused by a biological clock acceleration, which controls a range of essential functions in addition to sleep.

This interesting study was from the O’Donnell Brain Institute.

According to researchers, having an understanding about which clock genes are impacted by the parasitic disease can help them come up with new therapeutic alternatives in the future.

It is worth mentioning that toxic treatments currently being used are found to be occasionally fatal to patients.

Dr. Joseph S. Takahashi, Chairman of Neuroscience at UT Southwestern’s Peter O’Donnell Jr. Brain Institute and an Investigator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), says that sleeping sickness is really a misnomer.

He added that their work demonstrates the underlying mechanism of altered sleep in this condition, which is caused by a circadian disorder.

Sleeping sickness is also formally known as African trypanosomiasis. It is transmitted via bite of the tsetse fly, and continues to threaten tens of millions of individuals in sub-Saharan African countries.

It causes symptoms like fever, inverted sleeping cycles, itching, and muscle weakness. When the parasite invades the central nervous system, it kills its host.

This study was published in Nature Communications.

Today, more and more people are having difficulties getting a good sleep. There are many factors that contribute to sleep disorders like insomnia, and it includes stress. It may also be that the body is not getting the right types and amounts of nutrients.

Health experts have been warning consumers against the effects of not getting adequate sleep. Sleep deprivation has been linked with the onset of various diseases and disorders. While there are pharmaceutical sleep aids available, it can’t be denied that they are not at all helpful to everyone.

Certain nutrients like B vitamins have been found to be helpful for sleep. There are studies that found these vitamins may improve sleep quality and duration. The deficiency of these nutrients are even linked with sleep problems.

What makes the use of B vitamins even more beneficial is that they have many health benefits to offer. Some researchers even speculate these vitamins have the ability to ward off diseases.
