(Newswire.net— July 4, 2018) — If you love fine restaurants with the very best chefs and the most amazing and imaginative cooks, prepare to travel the world and find out your favorite fine dining joints from world’s top 50 list for 2018 or you can simply move to New York.
This year, more than a 1,000 independent international restaurant industry experts and well-travelled gourmets from five continents voted for the worlds 50 best restaurants. The award ceremony was held in Bilbao, Spain. The 2018 crown went to Osteria Francescana in Modena, Italy taking the title of the World’s Best Restaurant from Eleven Madison Park, New York, which now ranks fourth.
In the gastronomy world European eateries are ultimately dominant over the rest of the planet, but still, six American restaurants find their place on the best 50 list and four of them are in New York City. Well done New Yorkers, your city is the best place on the planet to find various restaurants listed as the best in the world.
Last year’s winner Eleven Madison Park, NY, this year is #4, Blue Hill at Stone Barns is #12, #25 is Cosme and Le Bernardin is #26 and all of them are located in New York City.
Although, two more American restaurants are on this list – Alinea, Chicago at #34 and Saison, San Francisco at #46.
The issue of welfare among kitchen employees was also discussed this year. According to Clare Smyth of London’s Core restaurant there should be more female representatives among the top professionals.
“I’m constantly being asked why we have a lack of female chefs, why we don’t see more women represented at the top level … and why don’t we have more diversity,” CNN quoted Smyth. “I don’t have the answers,” she said.
Smyth argued that the industry needed to create better working environments and make restaurants an equal and “more humane workplace for both men and women.”
What can we say, it is obvious that the top cooking is predominantly a European male sport. Perhaps a bit more diversity wouldn’t be so bad.
Here is the list, so you can judge for yourself and bon appetite!
