(Newswire.net — July 14, 2018) Orlando, FL — Almost all people who suffer from UTIs say that this infection is obnoxious. There are many symptoms that it produces, and one is its ability to interfere with one’s sex life.

Researchers say that this infection affects any part of the urinary tract. In most cases, it affects the urethra or bladder.

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) reveals that the urinary tract includes the ureters, kidneys, urethra, and bladder.

It is worth mentioning the ureters are the tubes connecting the kidneys to the bladder, and the urethra is the tube used in peeing.

According to the Mayo Clinic, UTIs can happen to any of these places. However, they normally develop when bacteria is able to transfer from the gastrointestinal tract, then to the anus and then the bladder.

UTI symptoms can vary, and it depends on the area affected by the infection. When the infection happens in the urethra, it leads to burning with urination. It is even accompanied by cloudy pee and abnormal discharge.

Once it affects the bladder, it can cause pelvic pressure, frequent urination, pain in the lower abdomen, and blood in the pee.

Unfortunately, infection spreading to the kidneys can results in side and upper back pain. It also leads to nausea, shaking and chills, high fever, and vomiting.

Females are found to be more prone to UTIs due to the fact that their anus and urethra are located near each other. There is also often a shorter urethral opening in vaginas compared to penises.

There have been issues about having UTI and engaging in a sexual activity. Many experts say it is important to pee after sex to reduce the risk of UTIs.

Jacques Moritz, an ob/gyn at Weill Cornell Medicine and New York-Presbyterian Hospital, says individuals who suffer from UTI symptoms are often less likely to have an appetite for sex.

It is always important to remember that urinary tract infections can lurk around even if it already stopped producing symptoms.

According to Mary Jane Minkin, M.D., the other tricky thing is that even if your symptoms are gone, the infection might not be. It’s hard to pinpoint the exact moment of UTI-liberation.

Minkin is a clinical professor in the department of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive sciences at the Yale University School of Medicine.
