Scientists Now Suggest There Is a Link Between Resting Heart Rate and Earlier Death

The Harvard Medical School scientists conducted a 28-year study, which measured the heart rates of more than 15,000 individuals at subsequent doctor appointments.

The researchers also suggest that a reduction in the resting heart rate was associated with lowered risk.

Dr. Solomon suggests that it is likely that the heart rate is the marker of a reduced cardiovascular health as well as a declining physical fitness.

Further, increased heart rate may also force the heart to need more oxygen. When this happens, it results in ischemia and may contribute to heart attacks.

They also found that changes in resting heart rate improved the activation of sympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for your body’s fight-or-flight hormonal response.
