(Newswire.net — July 26, 2018) — A recent report points to good news for disabled employees receiving Dallas small business group health insurance through their employers. Employment figures are higher for people with disabilities in states where Medicaid coverage has been expanded as part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
According to data provided by the healthcare periodical American Journal of Public Health, the total number of unemployed was lower in states where Medicaid has expanded. In states where it has not occurred, no reduction was found.
Texas of course does not provide state-based health insurance through the Affordable Care Act. However, many individuals can receive Dallas small group health insurance utilizing an independent agent, broker site or company to enroll directly into Obamacare and still receive financial assistance the law provides.
So for many disabled workers living in Medicaid-expanded states, they are leveraging the benefits of the ACA through employment. Additional research seems to confirm this development. University of Kansas researchers reviewed data from the Health Reform Monitoring Survey from 2013 to 2017. Employment among the disabled rose from 41 to 47 percent while reporting for those not working fell from 32 to 27 percent.
Employers also benefit as they have access to a larger pool of qualified candidates, productive workforce, and improved local economies. Rick Thornton, a Dallas small group health insurance agent and owner of Insurance4Dallas thinks the trend is a positive one. “Although Dallas health insurance recipients don’t get the full benefits seen in ACA states, healthcare security clearly helps individuals with disabilities live their lives with dignity and allows them focus on their jobs. My clients who have taken advantage of the ACA benefits through private exchanges have a sense of relief and confidence knowing their physical well-being is taken care of which allows them to be great employees.”
