Early Life Stress Increases Depression Risk

(Newswire.net — September 11, 2018) Orlando, FL — Stress is highly prevalent nowadays and is believed to increase the chance of having certain diseases and disorders. Unfortunately, stress early in life is difficult or even impossible to prevent or reverse.

A study was performed at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. It was published in the journal called Science.

This study found that stress early in life makes one susceptible to various mental health issues, such as depression and mood problems.

It is worth mentioning that previous studied have recommended that early life stress heightens the risk not just of depression, but also other psychiatric syndromes.

This Mount Sinai study concentrated not on the alterations in the action of the genes caused by changes in DNA code due to genetics. However, it focused on the molecules that regulate where, when, and to what degree the genetic material is activated.

According to Catherine Peña, PhD, lead investigator of the study, their work was able to identify the molecular basis for stress in a sensitive developmental window that programs the response of a mouse to stress in adulthood.

They found that the subject mice stressed during the early-life sensitive time period were more susceptible to succumbing to depression-like behavior in adulthood. However, it only came after additional adult stress.

Eric J. Nestler, MD, PhD, suggests that the mouse paradigm will be helpful for understanding the molecular correlates of heightened risk of depression, which result from early life stress.

Nestler is a Nash Family Professor of Neuroscience and Director of the Friedman Brain Institute at Mount Sinai and senior investigator of the study.

The study may be relevant to individuals who have experienced stress and trauma during childhood.

Some remedies are thought to be potentially helpful against depression. This includes rhodiola rosea, which is considered to be a popular adaptogen.

According to researchers, rhodiola rosea has a remarkable potential to act as effectively as an antidepressant prescribed by doctors. What makes it even more beneficial is that it could also be beneficial against stress and anxiety.

This natural remedy is widely consumed nowadays through supplementation. There are even those who use it for preventive health purposes. Rhodiola Rosea may be helpful for those who want to fight depression.

Divine Bounty Rhodiola Rosea is a formula that continues to gain attention and trust from consumers. It is highly potent and is crafted carefully in an FDA-inspected facility in the United States.
