(Newswire.net — September 17, 2018) –Food delivery service DoorDash has expanded to 60 new cities in Florida, marking the largest launch day in the history of the company.

The company is now delivering from more than 3,000 local restaurants and operates in more than 1,200 cities across the United States. Restaurants include BJ’s, Alexandria Pizza, Five Guys, Denny’s, Jack in the Box, Red Lobster, Wendy’s, Felipe’s Mexican and more.

“We are thrilled to be expanding throughout the Sunshine State, enabling more than 12 million residents to enjoy having their favorite foods delivered straight to their door while empowering local businesses,” said DoorDash CEO and co-founder Tony Xu in a press release.

As part of the launch, DoorDash is only charging $1.99 for deliveries made in the next 30 days. The first delivery is free to new DoorDash users.

The new cities include – but are not limited to – Brent, Cocoa, Port St Lucie, Homestead, Daytona Beach Shores, Lakeland, Plant City, Hialeah Gardens, Pensacola, Palm Shores, South Daytona, Warrington, Vero Beach, Palm Bay and more.

The San Francisco-based company, which was founded in 2013, recently expanded its delivery partnership with Chipotle. The company now offers burritos for delivery directly through Chipotle.com or the Chipotle app, making it easier for customers to order through DoorDash.

To celebrate the launch of direct delivery, Chipotle is offering free delivery on orders over $10 through September 12.

DoorDash relies on independent drivers to pick up and deliver food to customers. Drivers, which work as independent contractors, must meet certain requirements to work with the company, including the passing of a background check. But unlike rideshare services, the company’s vehicle requirements are more lax. In some areas, drivers may be able to use a bike, scooter or motorcycle to make deliveries.

The company has been more aggressive in its promotions in recent months to drum up more business and expand its driver network. On September 4, the Cheesecake Factory announced that it will donate one meal for every DoorDash order in the month of September.

“We are so pleased to support Feeding America with the donation of a meal for every order placed on DoorDash during Hunger Action Month,” said David Overton, the founder and CEO of The Cheesecake Factory Incorporated. “Feeding America’s network of food banks does such meaningful work in each of our restaurants’ communities, and we are honored to support them.”

DoorDash is The Cheesecake Factory Incorporated’s national delivery partner.
