ENM is always searching for ways in which we can use our expertise and access to the development and construction industry to help out in the community.

So when we heard of the effort of a local businessman to construct wheelchair ramps for a Langley woman who was denied funding for them, we were happy to step in.

Our co-founder Daniel Greenhalgh often does business with Daniel Fedosenko’s company Mr. Home Inspector. The two are connected on Facebook and often share articles and information about the industry.

Recently, Fedosenko shared the news that he was planning a volunteer effort to construct wheelchair ramps for a Langley woman named Jean Moulton. Jean recently moved from a second-floor apartment in Langley City to a manufactured home in South Brookswood. She lost an arm and a leg to blood clots after a workplace injury, and wanted to be on the ground floor in case of emergencies.

She’d planned to utilize a provincial government program called Home Adaptation for Independence to fund the construction of wheelchair ramps to help her up the four steps into her home.

But when she applied in August, she was told that the $5 million of funding the program had,  had already run out for the year.

Her story was picked up by local newspapers, and Fedosenko offered to organize the construction of the ramps himself.

He reached out to the construction community for funding help, and our co-founder Daniel Greenhalgh donated $630 to his efforts, plus a couple of hundred dollars in discounts on materials.

“We also told a lot of friends about it and pushed them to donate. We got him pretty close to his funding goal.”

On a recent Saturday, Daniel and a contractor named Shawn Reid showed up with a work crew and built the ramps inside and outside Jean’s home.

“We were happy to help Daniel with the effort and we commend him for organizing it. We also hope this will push BC Housing to provide more funding for this program to help out those in need, like Jean.”
