(Newswire.net — October 25, 2018) — Lisa Swanson, licensed acupuncturist and founder of Grass Valley, California practice Dharma Acupuncture, launched a new report offering healthy alternatives to sugar-based traditional Halloween candies. The suggestions aim to help parents offer children enjoyable treats which are healthy and safe, thus eliminating the risks associated with excessive sugar.

Each year, Ms. Swanson participates in the Grass Valley downtown October 31st Halloween trick-o-treating morning hours for children. With her extensive background in acupuncture and natural medicine, giving candy to children has always been a struggle for her.

“So many of my pediatric cases are caused by poor diet, often laden with sugar”, she said. “I work so hard with parents to find simple, creative ways to get their kids to eat healthier that passing out candy at Halloween time seems like such a contradiction.”

She launched the new report to provide a list of healthy Halloween treats that do not include sugar or candy. The list includes glow bracelets, small water bottles, stickers, mandarin oranges, or other fruits. A simple visit to the store can also provide parents with plenty of other ideas: “Dollar stores have great buys that can help us keep sugar to a minimum”, said Ms. Swanson. “They have several sheets of stickers, and glow sticks for affordable prices.”

The Grass Valley acupuncturist also provides general nutrition tips for fall and winter. She recommends staying away from sugar as the weather cools and “increasing warming foods such as root vegetables like sweet potatoes, beets, carrots, turnips and rutabagas.”

Ms. Swanson’s clinic is available for professional acupuncture sessions based on the Balance Method, a traditional approach which offers immediate results. Her blog also contains health tips and recipes.
