(Newswire.net — November 13, 2018) —  Scientists have found that freezing air may be able to stop 99% of pollutants. Deadly outdoor air pollution, which is responsible for as much as 3 million premature deaths annually, may be able to be stopped, according to scientists that are testing the effectiveness of cryogenics on air pollution.

Haze is neutralized thanks to the removal of gaseous pollutants and particulates.

Nottingham Tent University and the Chinese Academy of Scientists have been working together on the study. The researchers used a cryogenic condenser, circulating haze-polluted air through the unit. The unit was able to cause the fine particles to join together, dropping out by gravity and releasing clean air instead.

But using cryogenic technology is completely different. The unit would remove more particulates than a standard filter in an HVAC system.

Nitrogen oxide pollutants were removed at a rate of 98%, while particulates had a 99% removal rate. The findings have the potential to impact billions of people worldwide. Outdoor air pollution, as seen in China, can be as bad as smoking more than a pack of cigarettes daily. The cryogenic solutions are more efficient and less wasteful than other filtration systems, which produce harmful by-products.

Polluted air will be required to be circulated through a freezing chamber, which will remove the particles and pollutants.

Researchers suggest that the findings may be incorporated into appliances in the future. The appliances would be able to clean the air in areas that are experiencing extremely poor air conditions. This hypothetical solution would allow for cleaner air worldwide.

Modifications to air conditioning units and humidifiers will be able to be presented, allowing for clean indoor air with minimal adjustments in existing systems.

“Air conditioners tend to dry out your home, enabling allergens and dry skin to creep up on you. A properly installed, fully integrated humidification unit works to balance your home at the proper moisture level,” explains Intelligent Service.

The change would make air conditioners more efficient, and indoor air pure.

India and China, where air pollution is common and air quality is very poor, will be able to benefit from these systems. India has been experiencing higher temperatures that allow many of these pollutants and particulates to remain in the air.

Toxic smog is also covering Hong Kong, which has some of the worst air quality in the world. Bicycle initiatives are also being incorporated in major cities around the world that are dealing with smog and pollution that is only getting worse.
