(Newswire.net — March 11, 2019) Orlando, FL — Osteoarthritis is the most prevalent arthritic condition in the United States. Due to its high prevalence, more and more researchers are conducting studies to discover how this condition can be prevented and treated.
The scientists at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) in San Diego, CA conducted a study.
In this research, they found that the proteins known as FoxO are key for joint health. They suggest that increase the levels of FoxO could be potentially helpful in the prevention and treatment of the condition.
The senior study author Dr. Martin Lotz is from the Department of Molecular Medicine at TSRI.
Dr. Lotz and his team reported their findings in the journal Science Translational Medicine.
In the United States, osteoarthritis is estimated to impact more than 30 million adults. It has remained the most common type of arthritis in the country.
According to researchers, this degenerative joint disease is characterized by a breakdown of cartilage. The cartilage, on the other hand, is the tissue that cushions the joints of the bones. This condition normally affects the hip, knee, and hand joints.
In previous studies, it has been found in cases of osteoarthritis there are low FoxO levels in the joint cartilage. The latest study tried to see how joint health is affected by the FoxO proteins.
The scientists looked into mice that had lacking FoxO protein levels in their joint cartilage. There were also control mice in the study. They found that FoxO-deficient mice suffered from joint degeneration at a significantly younger age.
They found rodents suffering from FoxO deficiency exhibited greater susceptibility to cartilage damage during a treadmill test. They were also more susceptible to developing traumatic osteoarthritis caused by knee injury.
What makes the findings even more interesting is that the scientists found the mice deficient of FoxO showed abnormalities in autophagy.
This pertains to a natural process by which cells eliminate any unwanted or damaged components. This is for the purpose of maintaining their health and carrying out any repairs.
Scientists in the study further discovered that mice lacking of FoxO proteins were unable to produce the needed levels of lubricin. This is a protein that aids in producing joint cartilage against wear and tear.
In addition to increasing FoxO levels in fighting osteoarthritis, it may be helpful to consider what natural remedies like glucosamine can offer. Glucosamine is an all-natural ingredient found to be helpful in improving and protecting joint cartilage health.
To experience its benefits, it is wise to take into account the use of VitaBreeze Glucosamine, which is a highly potent and pure formula (www.amazon.com/Glucosamine-Chondroitin-Turmeric-Dietary-Supplement/dp/B00DUMO9X4).
