(Newswire.net — March 22, 2019) — If you’re interested in acting, dancing, modeling or singing, it’s crucial that you get comfortable with going to casting calls and auditions. The competition can be stiff, so casting calls are how agents and directors evaluate you for roles. Having everything you need at the casting call is one way to put your best foot forward and make yourself appear professional. Here’s what to bring to a casting call.

What to Bring to a Casting Call

Headshot and Resume

Always have a copy of your resume and picture with you. A typical headshot measuring 8 by 10 should work. Just staple your resume to the back of the headshot and carry one or two more copies in case the casting director asks for more, which is common in commercial auditions.

Personal Toiletries

Have a few personal toiletries such as lip balm, moisturizer and a comb or brush so you can fix your hair if it gets messed up and maintain a professional appearance. You should also consider carrying a mirror, toothbrush and floss, whether on you or in your car so you can freshen up as needed. Women should also have their makeup and hair accessories to change appearance or for touch-ups if the casting director so requests. This is especially crucial for on-camera auditions, where the casting director, along with the production crew and clients will be reviewing tapes over and over again.

Water

Casting often involves waiting for as long as an hour or more, so bring a bottle of water with you. You’ll also want to bring something to occupy yourself as you wait, such as a book or your phone. The water will keep you hydrated while the book will help to distract you from getting too nervous as you wait for your turn.

Prepared Song, Dance and/or Monologue

You may be asked to dance, sing or do a monologue. Have something that you feel confident doing and rehearse it several times. You can practice by performing the piece for a friend or relative before the audition and have them give you some critiques and ideas on how to improve your performance.

Change of Clothes

There’s no harm in keeping a change of clothes in your car. You may get there and suddenly realize that your dressing is not appropriate, either because you weren’t aware of the style of dress or you just don’t want to stand out. Moreover, it’s not uncommon to go into the casting office only and be asked to audition for a different role. Different clothing can go a long way in helping to convince your interviewers of your image or character.

Bottom Line

Casting calls can be nerve-wracking for most people. The trick is to look natural and go for simple clothing and minimal hairstyling and makeup. You also want to do as much research as possible on the specific casting you’re going to attend and check if there are any specific requirements that scouts are looking for. Nonetheless, the tips mentioned on what to bring to a casting call should be sufficient to ensure a smooth casting.
