(Newswire.net — June 6, 2019) — The chance to connect with nature is a draw for many visitors, as is the prospect of seeing the Northern Lights, a sight many never get to experience.
There is so much to see and do that you can’t get anywhere else in the world. You can go whale watching in the summer, visit massive glaciers or steamy hot springs and fiery volcanoes. The landscape needs to be seen to be believed. You will feel like you have stepped into another world, and by motorhome Iceland has even more to offer.
Renting a motorhome couldn’t be easier
You might be nervous about taking a motorhome if you have not done it before, but do not worry. You will soon start to appreciate the freedom it brings, being able to go where ever you please, and not being constrained by having to return to a hotel each night.
There are over 200 campsites in Iceland, so there are plenty of places to rest at night, and it can often workout cheaper than a hotel booking. You can even get 4×4 campers that help you navigate the terrain a little easier, and the insurances available help keep you covered against any type of damage – including by volcanic ash, which is quite unique as far as insurance goes!
If you want to try something new, an adventure and memories that will make you smile for a lifetime, this unusual and beautiful place will do that, and the freedom and chance to be alone with nature by using a camper will make it all the more special.
Driving in Iceland is very different but very easy
You might be worried about how to drive in Iceland, but the great news is that the population is so small, the roads are not crowded enough to be stressful, even in the cities.
There will be times when you feel like you have the whole world to yourself.
To make navigation simple, there is a 190 mile ring road that can get you pretty much anywhere and loops round most of the country, known as the golden circle. But of course driving in Iceland is not just about the main roads. There are places where even the highway becomes a dirt track, and if you want to really explore then you will definitely find yourself fording shallow rivers and going on more tricky roads.
Do not be tempted to go off-roading though – it is illegal and will damage the delicate local wildlife habitats.
In summer months you can even head into the mountains on the F-roads, although they are closed in winter when you can expect to have snow and ice.
Fresh local produce has produced some of the most amazing restaurants in the world
While you are exploring, you simply must try out the Icelandic food. There are some truly great restaurants in Iceland. There is a great focus on both fresh fish and seafood from the surrounding waters, and also locally reared lamb features in many of the dishes.
There are a few that are definitely worth a visit. If you are a lobster lover then Fjorubordid is the place to go. Located near to Selfoss Waterfall, which is also worth a visit you can expect lobster cooked just about every way you can imagine.
Or if you are a true meat lover then the great Reykjavik grill, Grillmarkaðurinn has everything, even some quite different ingredients like reindeer and puffin. Everything is fresh and smoked to perfection.
To satisfy your brunch cravings, check out the Cuckoo’s Nest. Icelandic cuisine is very seafood and meat heavy, but this also has some great vegan and vegetarian options.
