(Newswire.net — July 18, 2019) Orlando, FL — Obesity has long been associated with the onset of various diseases and disorders. While it has been found to negatively affect the heart, it appears that in a study it may not increase heart attack risk.

The study was carried out by Swedish researchers who studied identical twins, one being obese or overweight and the other was trimmer.

According to lead researcher Peter Nordstrom, the heavier twin had a lower risk of heart attack or death than the leaner twin. However, as expected, the heavier twin had a higher risk of diabetes.

Nordstrom is chief physician in the department of community medicine and rehabilitation at Umea University.

“Lifestyle factors that decrease the amount of fatness may not reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease or death, although it will reduce the risk of [type 2] diabetes,” Nordstrom added.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns that over one-third of the American population is obese.

Further, the CDC adds that obesity has long been associated with stroke, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and some types of cancer.

By estimates, obesity-related ailments cost $147 billion in the United States every year.

The report was published online Aug. 1 in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine.

Today, an increasing number of researchers are stressing the importance of managing a healthy weight. It is important to realize that there are various factors that contribute to excessive weight gain, in addition to having an unhealthy diet and being physically inactive.

According to some experts, toxins can contribute to obesity. These are environmental toxins such as BPA and persistent organic pollutants (POPs), which have been found to increase the risk of weight gain.

Experts warn against the exposure of toxins like phthalates, pesticides, plastics, and heavy metals like lead, mercury, and arsenic. These environmental toxins are also called obesogens, which are foreign chemical compounds found to disrupt fat metabolism and promote weight gain.

In some studies, it has been found that these toxins play a significant role in predisposing animals to hormone disruption, insulin resistance, and obesity.

It may be difficult or even impossible to totally avoid exposure to these toxins. However, it is worth realizing that there are other ways to ensure that these toxins are unable to wreak havoc on health.

Experts recommend detoxifying the body from these harmful substances. One of the best and safest ways to detox is to use activated charcoal, which has long been reputed to work wonders in cleansing the body from heavy metals and toxins.
