The Barista’s Favourite Milk Alternative Has Arrived at Espressotec

(Newswire.net — July 24, 2019) Vancouver, BC — Plant-based milk alternatives have had quite the vogue over the past several years, with blends of almond, coconut, cashew, and hemp casting soy and rice into shadow. Not all of these are created equal, however, especially in the eyes (and on the palate) of coffee-lovers hoping to enjoy a dairy-free but equally delicious latte. In this heyday of “mylk”s, one particular type has won the hearts of baristas and coffee professionals across Australia, the UK, Canada and the US: oat milk.

Purists may balk — cereal and milk come from the same plant now?? — as might coffee-drinkers jaded by too many promising milk substitutes that only turned their cappuccinos chalky or overpowered the flavour of their espresso. But it’s hard to ignore the hundreds of discerning baristas worldwide who are touting the wonders of brands like Oatly and Minor Figures — so much so that supply has fallen short of demand. And now, local plant-based company Earth’s Own Canada has thrown its hat in the ring with the launch of its Barista Edition Oat Milk.

Differing in several key ways from its original oat milk (available now in grocery stores), the Barista Edition is specially formulated to pair well with coffee and perform well when steamed for lattes, cappuccinos, macchiatos, etc. The development phase involved lots of testing with local cafes and coffee professionals to ensure the texture was not only pleasing to the palate, but also of true latte art caliber.

“It’s a real crowd-pleaser for coffee shops, not only because of its flavour, texture, and appearance, but because it covers so many bases: vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, nut-free, yet still delicious,” says Rob Paton, general manager at Espressotec. “No other non-dairy milk has yet satisfied so many types of coffee-loving customers at once, as well as the discerning baristas that serve it.”

As purveyors of all things coffee and supporters of local brands (evinced by the numerous BC roasters featured at Roaster Central), it’s no surprise that Espressotec has leapt at the opportunity to work with Earth’s Own, and bring the new Barista Edition Oat milk to home and commercial clients alike. The tasty plant-based milk alternative is now available for purchase in their showroom and online store, and participants in their Barista Skills classes are encouraged to try the product to see how well it steams and pairs with espresso. Espressotec has even teamed up with Earth’s Own to host an upcoming event for the coffee-loving community, featuring a showcase of the Barista Edition Oat Milk sure to convert even the firmest of skeptics.

“We want to make specialty coffee as inclusive and accessible as possible,” Paton adds, “and truly satisfying non-dairy options like oat milk open the doors just that much wider.”
