The diesel generator is a reliable, mobile, and steady source of power whenever and wherever you need it. This generator uses a diesel internal combustion engine that burns diesel fuel. The reliability and the low fuel consumption has led the market of diesel generators to keep skyrocketing. The sale is supposed to be continued even though the environment-friendly options are getting cheaper and easy to use every day.

1.      The use of diesel generators

The diesel generator is used all over the world in every sector of business, hospitals, farms, firms, industries, power plants, manufacturing plants, factories, commercial buildings, residential apartment buildings, etc. You name it. The generator is used in case of a blackout event that might occur in the future. Nowadays, almost all businesses and industries use computerized tech. So even a blackout for a second can bring a devastating effect on the institution. That can include Massive data loss, stopping of manufacturing, hardware malfunction, damage of electrical components, risk of life in the hospitals. So, the need for a backup power source is unavoidable. And the diesel generator provides that facility with reliability and ease.

2.      Issues with diesel generators

The diesel generator has two major problems. One is the emission of poisonous and carcinogenic gasses that takes a toll on human health. The nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide and plethora of other poisonous gasses are emitted through the exhaust by burning diesel fuel. Although the technology has improved to emit cleaner exhaust, the result is not mind-blowing. The human body risks respiratory and cancerous diseases by exposure to diesel fumes. Another major issue is the environment pollution of the diesel generators. They are responsible for a significant increase in global temperature and climate change. The air is getting thick layers of carbon dioxide thus creating holes in the ozone layer of the earth, also known as the protective shield of the earth.

3.      Diesel generator future development

The future of the diesel generators cannot be predicted that easily. We all know that we need them without any questions. The carbon and other toxic fumes emission have lessened over the years of research. The clean diesel-burning is now a reality. But there are thousands of infrastructures which uses years old generators. They are hard to replace either because of the size or because of the monetary issues. Either way, the diesel generators are not going anywhere for at least another decade or so. The generator industry will keep increasing their sales in the meanwhile. But they are trying to implement newer technology that makes the generator more efficient and environmentally friendly.

4.      Alternate solutions for a backup power source

Although the diesel generator industry is not going to fall overnight, the end must come one day inevitably. Because the fuel is not endless. Also, renewable alternative solutions for energy are getting cheaper every day. So the generator industry is not without competition. Solar panels and batteries are a great alternative to a diesel generator. It is basically free energy. So, the electricity bill is almost nonexistent. It also does not pollute the air nor does it create any toxic fumes. The operation is silent thus making the noise pollution go away. Natural gas generators can also be another alternative source of diesel generators. The price of natural gas is holding steady for years. And the health and environmental hazards are much less compared to the diesel alternative.

The need for an auxiliary power source as backup is important and unavoidable. But one way or another we have to shift towards renewable energy. Because that is the future we are heading towards. How and when that transition happens, we can’t exactly predict. But the change is inevitable.
