(Newswire.net — September 19, 2019) — The horrors of the Holocaust are not even a century behind and yet anti-Semitic attitudes are spreading all over again. Things have gone so bad that the Jews in Europe are becoming legitimately apprehensive for their lives.
The worst thing about it is that this attitude is most certainly not new. There were news reports stating that many Jews were reconsidering their future in Europe in 2015. This was a shocking revelation to some people as for a long time the memory of the atrocities inflicted by the Nazis was keeping the persecution at bay.
However, the increase in the frequency and severity of attacks show that the memories of some people are too short. Either that or they don’t care and take up anti-Semitic views as some form of twisted self-validation.
The memory issues can be easily resolved by visiting one of the many Holocaust memorials that are strewn all over Europe. Exhibits in the Auschwitz Museum showcase the horrors that humans can commit when whipped into a fanatical frenzy by extremist propaganda. Seeing them today definitely should make enough of an impact on any human being to have them “snap out of it” and see reason.
And yet, the latest reports about the rise of anti-Semitism show that this doesn’t happen. The situation has gotten so bad, children are now facing persecution and discrimination in schools. Is this a sign that the nightmare from history can be repeated?
An even more important question is “will this ever end”?
The Future of Jews in Europe and the World
In order to tell whether the Jews will be safe in Europe with any measure of certainty, one needs to understand why exactly anti-Semitism is going on the rise yet again. The reasons for this are extremely complex, as they always are for social issues, especially ones of this magnitude.
Part of the reason for this current situation is the resurfacing of the far-right extremists who are promoting the ideas of white supremacy. The influx of refugees, which led to a crisis of its own, brought a large number of immigrants from Muslim countries. And while it’s not a condemnation of Muslims as a religious community, one cannot deny that many of these people are outright hostile to Israel, and Jews in general, by extension.
These are only two of the myriad of factors that affect society, but all of them inevitably coalesce to cause the situation that’s happening now.
To put it simply, the people are angry and when they are, they try to take that anger out on someone. It just so happens that many of them are seeing the Jews as a convenient target for that.
This discrimination against a nation has no logical reason. It cannot have one because such treatment of any people can be nothing but vile senseless abuse. However, the reality is such that it does happen and the Jews living in Europe, and in other parts of the world as well, are right to worry.
History has already proven that humans are capable of unspeakable atrocities. And the risk of this happening again is very real.
This cannot be allowed to happen. Not ever again. Not to the Jews, and not to any other group of people.
Therefore, we need to come together as a community and stop this segregation and persecution whenever we witness it. Not a single incident should be swept under the carpet or left unaddressed.
Only by shining the light onto this problem and stretching out a helping and supportive hand to every person abused for their nationality, religion, sexual preferences, or even looks, can we prevent the atrocities from gaining momentum and devolving into another tragedy.
