In spite of the unfortunate turn of events, Brickey pleaded with the judge for a limited prison term or a probation sentence. However, the judge denied the request indicating that the occurrence had an extremely unfortunate outcome.

The presiding judge, Hon Michael Idiart stated that the situation was too extreme for probation and it was rejected due to the severity of the crime.
Three of the four who survived the crash were present at the concluding trial and stated through an interpreter that the destruction that was caused exceeded any prison sentence.

They had lost a very close friend of the family in the crash that occurred in the south of Church in Chestnut who had just visited them from Los Angeles.

According to the judge, the 9-year prison sentence was simply to penalize the defendant and simultaneously keep the general public safe. The prosecutor of the case indicated that the result will inform anyone about the implications of drunk driving.
