( — October 21, 2019) Orlando, FL — Alcohol consumption has long been reputed to be harmful for health. This appears to be particularly true in cases of teenagers.

Dr. Hannes Hagstrom, with the Center for Digestive Diseases and Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm spearheaded a study.

In this Swedish research, it was found that men who have started drinking in their teenage years are at a heightened risk for liver disease.

According to Dr. Hagstrom, the study demonstrates that levels of alcohol intake in one’s late teens can determine his or her risk of suffering from cirrhosis later in life.

This interesting study was based on an analysis of data on over 49,000 men in Sweden. These men joined military service when they were 18 to 20 years of age. It is worth mentioning that over the next 39 years, 383 of these men suffered from cirrhosis.

Some even developed liver failure or other severe types of liver disease. It is also worth mentioning there are those that died from liver disease.

This amazing study was published in the Journal of Hepatology. Investigators revealed that the link was mostly observed in young men who consumed two drinks or more a day.

Current U.S. guidelines suggest consumption of no more than two drinks a day. The investigators recommend avoiding alcoholic liver disease by drinking a maximum of three drinks a day.

The World Health organization reveals that alcohol-related liver cirrhosis accounts for 493,000 deaths annually worldwide.
