(Newswire.net — April 1, 2020) Orlando, FL — Depression is widely known to be highly prevalent nowadays. However, it is also important to realize that aside from producing symptoms, it may also increase the odds of multiple serious ailments.

The University of Queensland carried out a study.

This Australian Longitudinal Study on Women’s Health tracked healthy, middle-aged women without previous diagnosis of depression or chronic illness over 20 years.

In this research, it has been found that women who struggle from the symptoms of depression are at a heightened risk of developing multiple chronic diseases.

According to UQ School of Public Health PhD scholar Xiaolin Xu, these days, many people suffer from multiple chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke and cancer.

The study findings have shown that 43.2 percent of women experienced increased depression symptoms.

“We looked at how women progress in the development of these chronic diseases before and after the onset of depressive symptoms,” Xu adds.

The researchers also revealed that women coming from the depressed group were 1.8 more susceptible to having multiple chronic health conditions before they first experienced depressive symptoms.

It has further been found that following the occurrence of these symptoms, women were 2.4 times more likely to have multiple chronic conditions compared to women without depressive symptoms.

The researchers suggest that inflammation could be associated with the development of depression and chronic physical diseases. These chronic ailments include hypertension and diabetes.

Depression affects millions of people today, and this is why experts continue to look for the remedies that could be helpful against this mental health issue.

It is important to note that in multiple research studies, it has been shown the use of B vitamins may be helpful for brain health. More particularly, they may work wonders in warding off depression.

Scientists suggest that B vitamins may aid in producing and controlling certain chemicals that influence mood and some other brain functions.

According to various research studies, reduced levels of these vitamins are associated with depression. Some experts further suggest that increased intake of B vitamins may aid in reducing depression symptoms.

In 2005, scientists carried out a study that was published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology.

In this research, it has been shown the combination of vitamin B-12 and folic acid (another type of vitamin B) decreased depression symptoms.

While more studies are still being carried out to explore more of the healing goodness of these vitamins it is worth mentioning that their use is highly recommended for a range of medicinal purposes.
