(Newswire.net — April 3, 2020) Orlando, FL — Alcoholic beverages have been consumed since time immemorial. There are certain types of alcohol that are thought to be beneficial to health when consumed moderately. However, this beverage can be detrimental to body and brain health when taken excessively.

Fish oil may potentially protect alcohol binge-drinkers from brain damage. Fish oil is widely popularized by the omega-3 fatty acids it contains. Omega-3s are healthy fats, which are thought to be extremely beneficial for body and brain health.

Omega-3s have long been believed to be beneficial for heart and brain health. However, they also have the potential to fight hangovers.

In a recent study from Loyola University Chicago, it was found that fish oil has the potential to offer protection against alcohol-induced inflammation as well as damage in the brain.

A team of doctors conducted the study, which was actually presented at a conference on biomedical research on alcoholism in Poland. The team previously conducted a research study on the effects of alcohol consumption on dementia risk.

It was found that drinking alcohol moderately could potentially reduce cognitive decline as well as the risk of dementia. The researchers reveal that small amounts of alcohol could toughen up brain cells and help them cope with stress better later in life.

Excessive alcohol intake, on the other hand, could overwhelm brain cells. It doesn’t just lead to inflammation in the brain but also cell death. The new study of the team of researchers aimed at determining how omega-3s in fish oil could affect the manner that brain cells reacted to alcohol.

The researchers fed rats large quantities of alcohol, which were equivalent to over four times the legal alcohol limit for driving. The study was called “binge alcohol”, and it was there that the researchers tried to analyze the brain cells of the rats.

It was found that the rats treated with fish oil have as much as 95 percent reduction in neuroinflammation and brain cell death. Based on the findings, omega-3s and fish oil are believed to offer protection against alcohol-related dementia.

It is important to note that alcohol-related dementia stems from brain cell loss and chronic inflammation.

According to the lead researcher, Michael Collins, the human brain naturally has high levels of DHA, which is a popular form of omega-3 fatty acid. Binge drinking decreases these DHA levels, and thus, it is easy to assume fish oil supplementation could potentially prevent this loss (http://www.amazon.com/Omega-Fish-Oil-Supplement-Softgels/dp/B00O8NS20K/).
