( — April 10, 2020) Orlando, FL — Today, many people rely on some treatments to manage asthma. While these treatments are useful, it is always best to avoid some triggers, which can increase its risk or worsen the condition.

Miles Weinberger, MD, says that single most important environmental factor that can make asthma worse is tobacco smoke. Weinberger is professor of pediatrics and director of the pediatric allergy & pulmonary division at the University of Iowa.

Smoking has long been found to trigger asthma symptoms. Even those who do not engage in the unhealthy habit, but are living in a household where someone smokes are also susceptible to the condition.

Some studies have been stressing the importance of managing a healthy weight to manage the condition better. It is important to remember that obesity is one of the sneaky triggers of the condition, and it has also been found to make controlling the symptoms difficult.

There are other triggers to avoid such as food preservatives. It is highly recommended to consume more whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and lean meats.

Some other health experts strongly recommend managing stress better, which has long been found to offer a range of health benefits.

It is worth realizing that there are minerals like magnesium found to be extremely helpful in fighting asthma.

According to experts, this macromineral could work as a short-term treatment of asthma attacks. It has been found to work by relaxing the smooth muscles at the bronchial level.

What makes it even more beneficial is that it acts on the smooth vascular muscle (blood vessels), and it does so by blocking excess calcium via its influence on calcium channels across cellular membranes. Researchers carried out a review of seven trials, and they looked into the intravenous emergency room magnesium for sufferers of acute asthma.

It has been found that magnesium was useful in severe acute asthma. It is further worth mentioning that in severe cases, its use led to improvements in peak expiratory flow rates (PEFR) by 52 L/min, and forced expiratory volume (FEV1) by 10 percent.

While more studies are still underway to explore more of the therapeutic benefits of this macromineral, its use is highly recommended.
