(Newswire.net — May 4, 2020) Winnetka, IL — Today, there are quite a number of people who suffer from pain due to various ailments. It is worth realizing that pain levels may actually be influenced by certain factors, which include sleep.

A recent research suggests that loss of sleep affects the brain in such a way that it increases body pain.

According to study author Adam Krause, activity in the somatosensory cortex, previously associated with the location and intensity of pain, was enhanced following sleep loss.

Krause is a Ph.D. candidate with the Center for Human Sleep Science at the University of California, Berkeley.

“In two regions called the striatum and the insula, sleep deprivation decreased the activity associated with pain [relief],” he added.

It is worth mentioning that such regions manage the release of dopamine, which is usually called the feel-good hormone.

During this research, the investigators had 25 healthy, young subjects that had normal eight hours of sleep one night. After a week or so, the same group underwent a night of no sleep whatsoever.

After every session, all the participants underwent “thermal pain sensitivity” tests, which were followed by MRI scans. These were made to monitor brain activity while their legs were exposed to uncomfortable levels of heat.

Following a full night of sleep, a majority of the volunteers reported feeling heat discomfort at about 111 degrees Fahrenheit. However after a night of no sleep, such pain threshold dropped to 107 degrees F.

It is worth noting that the brain scans highlighted the neurological basis for the uptick in pain sensitivity following sleep loss.

The findings were published Jan. 28 in the Journal of Neuroscience.

The importance of sleep can be dangerous to ignore or take for granted, and this is why more and more experts strongly recommend some proven techniques to enhance sleep.

There are medicinal herbs like ashwagandha found to work wonders in delivering significant sleep-enhancing benefits. According to researchers, ashwagandha is actually loaded with active components that could aid in inducing sleep.

A study was spearheaded by Mahesh K. Kaushik and Yoshihiro Urade of the International Institute for Integrative Sleep Medicine (WPI-IIIS), University of Tsukuba.

In this research, it has been found ashwagandha is rich in triethylene glycol (TEG), which promoted non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep significantly. Such a compound has been further found to alter rapid eye movement (REM) sleep slightly.

There are other mechanisms ashwagandha has been found to work in helping with sleep. This is why today, its use is widespread especially among individuals who are aiming to enhance their overall health.

One of the most potent and pure formula being widely resorted to by consumers is NutraHerbals Ashwagandha (amazon.com/organic-ashwagandha-root-powder/dp/B01GZALWGO).
