(Newswire.net — April 29, 2020) —  The US Department of Defense has released three declassified videos of an “Unexplained Aerial Phenomenon” (AEP), the Guardian reports.

The Pentagon said they wanted to “clear up any misconceptions by the public on whether or not the footage that has been circulating was real”.

The footage had already “leaked” in 2007 and 2017. Two articles were published by the New York Times, while the third was published by To The Stars, an organization co-founded by former Blink-182 singer Tom DeLonge.

After it was first released, some people claimed that the footage depicted unidentified flying objects (UFOs), but others said the footage was fake. After the official release of the footage, the authenticity of the videos has been confirmed.

The New York Times report in 2004 released the footage captured by two Navy fighter pilots. The footage shows a circular object hovering above the water, about 160 kilometers off the Pacific coast.

The other two clips were shot in 2015 and show objects moving through the air. It was clearly visible that one of the objects was spinning. In one video, a pilot is heard saying, “Look at that thing, dude! It’s rotating!”

The Department of Defense said in a statement that the footage has been declassified after it was determined that the authorized release of these non-confidential videos did not reveal any sensitive capabilities or systems, and did not interfere with subsequent investigations into the intrusion of unidentified aerial phenomena into military airspace.

“The DOD [Department of Defense] is releasing the videos in order to clear up any misconceptions by the public on whether or not the footage that has been circulating was real, or whether or not there is more to the videos. The aerial phenomena observed in the videos remain characterized as ‘unidentified’,” DeLonge tweeted.

Tweeting about the release, DeLonge thanked shareholders in his organization, To the Stars Academy of Arts and Sciences, and said he was hoping to fund further research into the objects that are depicted in the footage.

“With today’s events and articles on my and @TTSAcademy’s efforts to get the US Gov to start the grand conversation, I want to thank every shareholder at To The Stars for believing in us,” he said.

The musician founded this organization in 2017 with the goal of studying UFOs and other paranormal phenomena.
