(Newswire.net — May 28, 2020) Orlando, FL — There are many people nowadays who suffer from gout, which is considered to be a form of arthritis. It is worth realizing that gout may start occurring suddenly, and is often triggered by certain factors.

According to health care providers, gout attacks often lead in stiffness, severe pain, and swelling in one of more joints.

Theodore Fields, MD, says that high-purine foods can set off a gout attack, but they are not the underlying cause.

Fields is spokesperson for GoutPitStop.com, director of the Rheumatology Faculty Practice Plan at the Hospital for Special Surgery, and professor of clinical medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City.

Experts strongly discourage intake of alcohol, which can reduce the ability of the kidneys to filter uric acid. This leads to buildup and in turn results in a gout attack. It is strongly recommended to avoid consumption of high-purine alcoholic beverages, such as beer.

It is also advised to avoiding being obese or overweight. Being obese has been scientifically found to quadruple one’s likelihood of gout. It is also important to understand that obesity has long been associated with the onset of a myriad of diseases and disorders.

In reducing gout attacks, it is best to consider the use of certain nutrients like vitamin C. It is worth realizing that vitamin C has long been reputed to be highly therapeutic. Its use is even associated with a myriad of health benefits.

In some studies, vitamin C intake has been found useful in decreasing uric acid in the blood. This, according to experts, has been found helpful in offering protection against gout attacks.

A study was carried out and it involved 1,387 men as subjects. It has been found that those who took the most vitamin C experienced significantly lower blood levels of uric acid than those whose intake was less.

There are actually multiple research studies that found vitamin C may be useful against gout attacks. Experts say that there seems to be a strong association between vitamin C intake and the levels of uric acid.

Another study involved tracking 46,994 healthy men over 20 years. The researchers tried to see if vitamin C intake was associated with gout development.

It has been found that those who consumed vitamin C had a reduced gout risk by 44 percent.
