(Newswire.net — June 2, 2020) — US President Donald Trump announced he would be deploying the military to stop the unrest in Washington, DC. Trump said he would do the same anywhere local authorities fail to restore order, RT reports.
Trump appeared in the White House Rose Garden around 6:30 pm on Monday, declaring that the US has been gripped by “domestic terror” of “professional anarchists and violent mobs” which drowned out the “righteous cries of peaceful protests” over the death of George Floyd, an African-American man killed by police in Minneapolis, Minnesota last Monday.
“These are not acts of peaceful protest, these are acts of domestic terror,” Trump said, blaming also the media for fueling the chaos.
The death of African-American George Floyd, who was killed during his arrest on suspicion of paying with a counterfeit $ 20 bill, caused an eruption of violence across the United States. Hundreds of thousands of demonstrators have been on the streets for the sixth day in a row. In many cities, the police showed solidarity with the protesters and knelt on the street together with them.
Due to violence and looting, curfews have been introduced in 40 cities which, however, no one respects. In Washington, DC, when protesters reached the White House fence, President Trump had to be moved from his office to the basement shelter for an hour.
America has not seen such outbursts of discontent since the 1968 uprising against racism. About 5,000 members of the National Guard – US Reserve Army, are deployed in 15 federal states. Most of them were engaged in the defense of the White House.
Police in riot gear stormed rallies in New York, Chicago, Portland, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and many other cities. Minnesota authorities announced that they believe that there are white supremacists who have infiltrated the mass of demonstrators and that they are inciting riots. The Secretary of Justice stated that they consider Antifa and similar groups to be domestic terrorists. Antifa, an acronym for antifascists, is a group of leftists who provide support to the disenfranchised.
Racial unrest has set America on fire and shows no signs of calming down. While the demonstrations are mostly peaceful during the day, they become violent at night.
“It happened many times that the policemen killed the black man. That has now led to an eruption of anger and rage because most of the policemen were just fired, but they were not accused of those murders,” said one of the demonstrators.
After the lukewarm reaction of the authorities, when the police officers who killed Floyd were merely fired, it has now been announced that the indictment against them will be personally handled by the Minnesota state prosecutor.
