(Newswire.net — June 18, 2020) — The theme of fathers and children is eternal. The stories of parents and sons are millions, but not many of them can become a worthy example of relations between generations and, moreover, serve as a lesson in the successful transfer of knowledge and experience.

How Anton Machkevitch found a place in the new world?

The name of Anton Machkevitch is best known in Central Asia. He played one of the most important roles in the development of the healthcare system and sanitary control in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan.

Surprisingly, the person who literally saved thousands of lives of Central Asians is a Lithuanian Karaite by birth. He also graduated from the Medical University in the territory of modern Lithuania, where he began his career.

At home, Anton also met with the love of his life – Rachel Jofe. An extraordinary man chose an unusual woman as his wife. Ms. Jofe is one of the first Jewish women lawyers, whose stunning practice is still being studied at law schools throughout the former Soviet Union. In difficult times, she became a human rights activist, ahead of her ideas and principles for many decades.

The life and career of the Machkevitchs changed dramatically in 1941 – with the beginning of the Nazi German offensive on the USSR. Anton and Rachel were evacuated to Kyrgyzstan, where they continued their work interrupted by the war, and later found a new home.

Trace of father Machkevitch Alexander in history: For what he descendants are grateful

Anton Machkevitch played a major role in the fight against infectious diseases in Central Asia, from which tens of thousands of people died in the middle of the last century.

In the libraries of medical universities of all countries of the post-Soviet space, today you can find the main work – “Hygiene of rural water supply”.

The book in an easy, accessible, and timeless form describes how to guarantee the purity of water in rural areas and save residents of remote areas with extreme climatic conditions (such as in Central Asia) from the risk of contracting infectious diseases through water.

“It is amazing that the work created back in 1956, has not lost its relevance in our days. Father was able to create a work that will survive him. Constant work, altruistic consent to take risks, and complete immersion in work – all this guaranteed the success of the most important business, and for millions of people – access to clean tap water. Dad always remained for me an example of a man and a professional, whose ideal I have been striving for all my life,” says Machkevitch.
