(Newswire.net — June 29, 2020) Orlando, FL — There is a huge number of individuals in the aging population who struggle from osteoarthritis. Unfortunately, this condition doesn’t just produce symptoms but also increase the risk of injuries.

Researchers carried out an analysis of data involving a longitudinal study of over 50,000 women. In this research, it’s found that postmenopausal women with osteoarthritis appear to be at a greater risk of falls and subsequent fractures, despite having bigger bones.

They were compared to their counterparts without the joint disease. Among the 51,386 women in GLOW (Global Longitudinal Study of Osteoporosis in Women), 40 percent suffered from osteoarthritis (OA).

The investigators reveal that females with OA experienced nearly 30 percent more falls and a 20 percent  greater risk of fracture than those without OA.

Dr. Daniel Prieto-Alhambra was the lead author of the research, which was presented at the annual meeting of the American College of Rheumatology.

According to Dr. Prieto-Alhambra patients with osteoarthritis have bigger bones, and some have actually suggested that these bones are more resistant.

It is important to realize that falls can lead in death. Experts strong recommend sufferers resort to certain measures in helping manage the condition better. Enhanced disease control could significantly aid in reducing fracture risk.

Medications like nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are often used among those with this condition. However, it is worth noting that these pharmaceutical drugs can be purchased through prescription or over-the-counter.

They are popularized by their ability to decrease pain temporarily, but are also notoriously known for the side effects they produce.

Individuals with OA who want to manage their condition better and in a natural way may take into account the use of natural remedies like glucosamine. This natural ingredient is essential in repairing joint cartilage damage, and this is extremely beneficial in cases of osteoarthritis.
