(Newswire.net — July 10, 2020) Orlando, FL — As the rates of obesity continue to alarm more and more experts, researchers are increasingly looking into the ways to help reduce the prevalence of this epidemic.
A team of scientists, one of which is a faculty member at the University of Georgia, has carried out a study. In this research, the investigators were able to identify a specific circuit in the brain found to change food impulsivity.
The findings of this research, which were published in the Nature Communications journal, provides scientists the possibility of someday developing therapeutic to combat overeating.
It is important to realize that impulsivity pertains to responding without thoughts about the consequences of one’s action. Impulsivity has been associated with excessive food intake, weight gain, binge eating, and obesity.
It is also usually accompanied with some psychiatric disorders, such as excessive gambling and drug addiction.
According to Emily Noble, there’s underlying physiology in your brain that is regulating your capacity to say no to (impulsive eating).
Emily Noble is an assistant professor in the UGA College of Family and Consumer Sciences who served as lead author on the paper.
“In experimental models, you can activate that circuitry and get a specific behavioral response,” Noble added.
The researchers used a rat model to focus on a subset of brain cells producing a type of transmitter in the hypothalamus called melanin concentrating hormone (MCH)
It is worth noting that in previous research, scientists found that there is an increase in food intake when the MCH levels in the brain are elevated.
The investigators found that when they activated the MCH-producing cells in the brain, animals turned impulsive in their behavior around food.
There are various research studies looking into the ways to help millions of people manage a healthy weight. It is worth mentioning that aside from making dietary and lifestyle changes, it is also helpful to take into account using certain weight loss remedies.
One is L-Carnitine that is considered to be one of the most helpful fat burning remedies. In various studies, it has been found L-Carnitine aids in transporting fat to the Mitochondria.
It is worth mentioning the mitochondria is responsible for burning fat into fatty acids, which are used for energy production. When there are adequate levels of L-Carnitine inside the body, fat burning happens faster.
It is worth mentioning L-Carnitine also helps in body detox and this is one of the ways to aid in weight loss.
