(Newswire.net — July 3, 2020) — Holidays bring us the perfect opportunity to escape from our daily routines and live new experiences we would not get the chance to enjoy on a daily basis. If you are looking out for a new place to discover during your next holidays, we can not stop recommending you check out Tenerife.
An island with a lot to offer
Tenerife is a beautiful Spanish island located in the Atlantic Ocean. This island belongs to the famous Canary Islands, being the biggest one of them. Tenerife receives the visit of nearly 6 million tourists every year thanks to the broad repertoire of activities available in this island. It does not matter if you want to discover nature, beaches, monuments, or simply spend time with your family, Tenerife has everything you could wish for.
Tenerife has so many things to discover, so you will need to plan your visit ahead if you do not want to miss out on anything! Some of our recommendations include:
Mount Teide
Mount Teide is a must in every visit to Tenerife. This mount is the third tallest active volcano in the world and the tallest mountain in Spain. A field trip to the top of the mount will take you around half a day, but the views are well worth it. There is also the possibility of taking a cable car, but the last part of the trip to the peak will need to be made on foot, so we recommend you are fit as a fiddle for this quest.
Los gigantes and the natural pools
Los gigantes (the giants) are some majestic cliffs located one hour away from Mount Teide. It is the perfect destination for hikers since it is surrounded by nature (the rural park El Teno, the gully Masca and Teno Mountain). Los gigantes is located near the natural pools of Garachico, which are stunningly beautiful and an ideal destination to discover with the family.
Orotava Valley
If you like monuments and historical destinations, then you can not skip Orotava Valley. This small town was during centuries the place of residence of the richer families in the island, which can be seen reflected on the elaborated architecture of the houses in the city center. The town also features a marvelous XVIII church and the renown “Balcony house”, which was built in 1632 and has a very unique balcony row and interior yard.
Santa Cruz
Santa Cruz is Tenerife’s capital city. This beautiful city is full of stunning monuments you can not miss, all located within walking distance (making a simple stroll around Santa Cruz an unique experience). During your stay in Santa Cruz, we recommend you check out Plaza España (Spain Square), the church of the Immaculate Conception, the Almeida Barracks, Santa Cruz’s boulevard, the market of Our Lady of Africa, the Nature and Man Museum and Tenerife’s Auditorium. If you rent your own vehicle or fancy to use public transportation, you can also visit Teresitas beach and the Ifara viewpoint.
La Laguna
San Cristóbal de la Laguna (St Cristobal of the Lagoon) is a small town full of history whose big amount of beautiful monuments (with an amazing colonial style) earned it the title of heritage of humanity. Here you will be able to enjoy The Conception Church, Tenerife’s History Museum, a cathedral and bishopric.
Candelaria
This town is famous for featuring the Candelaria Basilica, home of the patron saint of the Canary Islands. The city is full of small touristic shops, which make it the perfect destination to spend the day with your family.
The best places to stay during your Tenerife trip
A lot of planning needs to be done in order to make any trip perfect, especially if it is done to a foreign island like Tenerife. One of the main things that should concern us is our accommodation. If you are trying to decide where to stay in Tenerife, we have a few suggestions for you that will make your travel the most pleasant experience.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife
As we saw earlier, Santa Cruz is full of wonders to discover. On top of that we add its stylish restaurants and bars, pedestrian streets and cruise ship port, we have an amazing city for our stay. The city counts with a wide catalogue of luxury 5 star hotels and enormous hotel ships, but for those traveling within budget, there is also the option of renting your own chic apartment or a room in an 1 star hotel.
Los gigantes
This small town is located within a small distance from the previously mentioned Los Gigantes Cliffs. This quiet town is recommended for families or couples looking to get away from the stress that comes with overcrowded areas and resorts. The resorts in this town are spreaded across three different points: the Marina (which is surrounded by restaurants, bars, shops, etc), the Maritime Avenue and the city’s square.
This city has a beautiful black sand beach (due to its volcanic origins) that rarely becomes overcrowded and which kids seem to love, making it the perfect spot for families. For your accomodation in the town you can opt out either for the main town’s resort or rent your own cheap private apartment.
Puerto de Santiago
This town is an amazing option if you want to be close to the beach and nature. This quiet town is close to some touristic destinations like Mount Teide or Los Gigantes. It has a stunning black sand beach and is located nearby some secluded beach areas where you can enjoy your day away from the crowds. The town’s resort even features boat trips to watch the local dolphins and whales.
Other interesting accommodation options can be found in Puerto de la Cruz, El Medano, Costa del Silencio, Los Cristianos, Callao Salvaje… With such a wide catalogue of accommodations in Tenerife, there is no doubt you will be able to find the one that better fits your needs.
