Swedish Study Reveals Acne-Causing Bacteria Resistant Treatment

According to statistics, 85 percent of individuals experience acne in one form or another at some point in their lives. In the United States, about 50 million individuals have some kind of acne. Further, 15 percent of these 50 million suffer from acne bad enough that it leads in skin scarring.

According to Christine Divne, the results can provide a clue to why acne is so difficult to treat. Divne is a researcher in structural biology at the Department of Industrial Biotechnology at KTH.

It is worth mentioning that the gut bacteria have been found to prevent mice from getting obese and they also aid in weight control in humans. The findings of this research suggest that the C. acnes metabolism enables the bacteria to make a nutritious meal of N-glycans. It also could produce a mechanism that allows it to circumvent the human immune system.
