(Newswire.net — November 19, 2020) Orlando, FL — Doctors have long been warning against intake of sugary food and beverages due to their undesirable health effects.

According to a recent study, there is a link in between sugar-sweetened drinks and the heightened risk of death from cardiovascular disease.

This study was published in the Circulation journal, which is a publication of the American Heart Association (AHA).

The findings of the study reveal that there was an increased risk of death in individuals who consumed more sugar drinks. This study involved data from 37,716 men in the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study and 80,647 women in the Nurses’ Health Study.

According to Vasanti Malik, the study’s lead author, drinking water in place of sugary drinks is a healthy choice that could contribute to longevity.

Malik is a research scientist in the Department of Nutrition at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston, MA.

“Diet soda may be used to help frequent consumers of sugary drinks cut back their consumption, but water is the best and healthiest choice,” Malik adds.

It is important to realize that in addition to avoiding intake of sugar food and beverages, it is also recommended to take other measures in protecting and enhancing heart health.

One of these measures is to ensure adequate intake of certain nutrients, such as B vitamins. It is worth realizing that according to Japanese researchers, B vitamins like B6 and folate may decrease the risk of death from heart problems and stroke.

Studies have shown both vitamins may decrease the risk of heart failure in men. In women, they have been found to aid in decrease death risk due to stroke and heart disease.

It is strongly recommended to consume foods rich in folate, such as fruits, vegetables, beans, and fortified cereals.

Scientists also suggest that increased intake of B6 and folate was linked with significantly less mortality due to heart failure in men. They suggest that folate and B6 may be useful against cardiovascular disease due to their ability to reduce levels of homocysteine.

It is worth noting that this amino acid in the blood is affected both by diet and heredity.
