(Newswire.net — December 18, 2020) Orlando, FL — There are multiple research studies showing various aspects of mental health issues like bipolar disorder. In a study, it has been found that men and women have different reactions to compounds linked with immune system response to bipolar disorder.

The findings of this research were published in the Psychiatry Research.

In this study carried out by an international team of medical researchers, it has been found that bipolar disorder diagnosis could one day be done by measuring certain biological changes in the body.

Further, treatments may also be tailored differently for women and men.

It is worth noting that the two hallmarks of this condition are episodes of mania or depression. Females tend to be more susceptible to depressive episodes, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and migraines due to poor sleep.

According to Erika F.H. Saunders, when a person has mania or depression, certain parts of their brain are affected.

Saunders is professor and chair of psychiatry at Penn State College of Medicine and senior author of the new study.

“For example, the hippocampus, which is important in memory formation, shrinks, and the connections between different parts of the brain are affected. We think that inflammation is playing a role in some of those changes that are then associated with poor functioning in bipolar disorder,” she adds.

Health authorities have long been warning against mental health issues like bipolar disorder, which affects approximately 2.3 million people in the United States. It is important to be warned that among bipolar sufferers, about 15 percent to 17 percent commit suicide due to the condition being left untreated.

It has further been found that suicide occurs in 15 percent to 17 percent of individuals with untreated bipolar disorder. It is often treated with mood stabilizers, which experts have found to be remarkably effective in eliminating symptoms.

In some studies, it has been found that natural remedies like curcumin may aid in fighting bipolar disorder. This is due to the fact that this phytochemical can act as an anticonvulsant, and may aid in controlling mood swings.

It is worth noting that anticonvulsants are particularly used as a mood stabilizer in cases of bipolar disorder. Researchers suggest that the use of curcumin may aid in controlling mania and depression as well as help stabilize mood and prevent relapse.

More studies are still being carried out to learn more about the mental health benefits of curcumin. However, it remains true that its use is widespread, especially through the use of supplements like VitaBreeze Curcumin (http://www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-Pepper-Extract/dp/B00JA4TLTI/).
