The first race for the Kingston Classic was in 1976. The actual turf is 1,800m. The race started as a Principal race but then became a Group 1 race in 1979. This race has been won by great thoroughbred horses. That is how the race acquired its name. Although the race first began in 1976, it wasn’t officially named until 2007. The name for the race came from the winner of the 1983 race, Kingston Town. Kingston Town Classic is one of three of Australian Group races. Railway Stakes and the Winterbottom Stakes are the other two races. The Kingston Town Classic, the last of the events held for Perth’s Annual Racing Carnival. In 2019 Kay Cee won the race following the 2017 win for Arcadia Queen.
