(Newswire.net — November 23, 2020) — You’re pregnant!

What an exciting time for you and your family. Lots of changes are ahead and we want you to be fully prepared. Your body will change in order to nourish the new life growing inside of you. Unfortunately, not all of the changes will be pleasant.

More than likely, your ankles will swell, it may be harder to get quality sleep and your back may hurt more than before. Luckily, you can combat some of these things with safe excercises for you and baby.

Keep reading below to learn about some easy, low-impact exercises that you can do throughout your pregnancy.

Swimming

Of all the excercises that are safe during pregnancy, swimming could possibly be the most ideal one. Swimming and doing various aerobic exercises while in the pool is very low-impact. This can be very gentle on your joints since your new baby is floating with you in the water.

Remember to always be careful while in the pool, as things can be quite slippery. As you progress in your pregnancy, your center of gravity will be different than usual.

Walking

Walking is one of the easiest and most convenient exercises available to anyone. There is no special equipent needed! Just put on some comfortable shoes and socks, then head out on a nice stroll. Baby and mom will both benefit from this excercise as well as the fresh air for their lungs!

Walking on a treadmill is great too. You can use the various programs available to create the best workout for your individual needs.

Aerobics

Dance workouts and low-impact exercises are perfect during pregnancy. You will have to use your best judgment or speak with a doctor to decide what level is best for you. If you are active in exercise before pregnancy, you may be able to do more aerobics. Some beginners may need to stick to water aerobics.

As your pregnancy progresses, your balance may change. Be careful and use your best judgment. You can take group aerobics classes offered at local gyms or you may choose to buy your own aerobics videos to complete at home.

Pilates

Pilates can be a great option during pregnancy. Pilates generally focuses on strengthening the core and most of its exercises are very low-impact. These exercises can help with backaches and your flexibility.

Please let your class instructor know that you are pregnant before starting any classes. They may be able to personalize your workout to make your classes smoother and safer.

Yoga

Yoga is another amazing option during pregnancy. Yoga encourages flexibility, deep-breathing and focus. New moms’ mental state is just as important as anything else. Yoga can help with this as a lot of the focus is on mindful thinking and your core. Many local gyms or YMCA’s offer yoga classes that you can get involved with.

Always avoid Bikram yoga during pregnancy. This type of yoga is practiced in a very hot environment and this is not safe while pregnant.

As you can see, there are many options for exercising while pregnant. Many traditional exercises can be completed as long as extra precaution is taken. Always use your best judgment, take lots of breaks to rest your body and always stay hydrated.

Always check with your doctor before starting a new exercise regimen while pregnant. Don’t be afraid to speak with staff at your local gym in order to modify your aerobics workouts in the classes you choose to take. It is your responsibilty to keep you and your baby safe.

Have a safe, active and happy pregnancy!
