Southern California Pulmonary and Sleep Disorders Medical Center in Thousand Oaks has launched their Inspire Upper Airway Stimulation therapy, a new treatment option for obstructive sleep apnea. Unlike CPAP, Inspire works from inside the body with the patient’s natural breathing process
The Inspire system works completely inside the body with the natural breathing process to treat obstructive sleep apnea. While asleep, Inspire delivers mild stimulation to the hypoglossal nerve, a nerve that controls the movement of the tongue and other muscles in the airway. By stimulating the nerve, the tongue and other tissues move out of the airway so a patient can breathe during sleep.
Dr Popper MD, FCCP, FAASM, DABSM says “There are many patients who are unable to tolerate CPAP and have simply given up on it. Inspire therapy is the first implantable device for treating Obstructive Sleep Apnea. In contrast to CPAP, Inspire works from inside the body with the patient’s natural breathing process. We’ve seen a higher level of patient satisfaction with Inspire and we’re excited to offer this new therapy to patients who struggle with CPAP.”
Dr Popper is one of the pioneers in the field of sleep medicine, founder and Medical Director of The Southern California Pulmonary and Sleep Disorders Medical Center since its inception in 1984. He is Board Certified in Sleep Disorders Medicine by both the American Board of Sleep Medicine and the American Board of Internal Medicine – Subspecialty of Sleep Medicine.
Inspire therapy is FDA approved and clinically proven to significantly reduce sleep apnea events and improve quality of life for the patient and their families.
Dr. Ronald Popper will evaluate your overall health and perform a physical examination of your airway to determine if Inspire therapy might be a suitable CPAP alternative for you.
