United States Vice President Mike Pence received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine on a live televised appearance Friday morning.

He opted to take the first of the two shots on live TV in order to build confidence and encourage other Americans to do the same. His wife, Karen Pence also received the vaccine shot.

Upon receiving the vaccine Mike Pence commented “I didn’t feel a thing. Well done.”

The vaccine comes in two doses, and the second should be received 21 days after taking the first dose.

New President-elect Joe Biden and his wife, Jill Biden who is set to be the next first lady, will be administered the first dose of the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine on Monday. Vice President-elect Kamala Harris along with her husband, Doug Emhoff will be vaccinated in the following weeks.

Sandra Lindsay, a clinical care nurse, was the first person in the US to receive the vaccine after shipments were rolled out on Monday. She was given the first shot at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Andrew Cuomo, New York Governor, congratulated her via live stream, and commented “Sandra, you didn’t even flinch”.

Since President Trump and first lady Melania successfully recovered from Covid-19 in October, it is unclear whether they will be taking the vaccine, however Trump previously stated that he is looking forward to getting the vaccine “at the appropriate time.”

Others who also received the vaccine on Friday include Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell as well as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. After she was given the injection, Mrs. Pelosi tweeted “We must all continue mask wearing, social distancing & other science based steps to save lives & crush the virus.”
