(Newswire.net — January 26, 2021) Orlando, FL — Today, more and more experts are stressing the importance of B vitamin intake. One of these B vitamins is folate, which is scientifically found to offer a range of health benefits.

A study was carried out and published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

In this research, it has been shown that women who consume folic acid supplements during their childbearing years are at a reduced risk of hypertension.

This study was carried out by the researchers from the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Its preliminary results were presented at the American Heart Association’s annual high blood pressure research conference in Chicago.

According to Dr. John P. Forman, a Brigham and Women’s researcher, this is the first major study to demonstrate that higher folate intake may be able to lower the risk of developing high blood pressure.

“This is especially exciting, given the safety and ready availability of folic acid supplements,” added Forman,

It is worth realizing that folate or folic acid is vital for proper cell growth. It has also been thought to reduce blood pressure due to its ability to enhance the function of the blood vessel.

More studies are still underway to explore the therapeutic goodness of B vitamins like folate. However, it is hard to deny that its use is highly beneficial for the body.

There are quite a number of research studies showing how therapeutic these nutrients are for overall health.

A study was published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

In this research, the investigators treated hypertensive adults who had low platelet count with folic acid. It has been found that the subjects experience a reduction in their risk of first stroke by 73 percent.

An earlier published report was released by the China Stroke Primary Prevention Trial (CSPPT).

It has been found that folic acid treatment could decrease risk of first stroke by 21 percent on average in hypertensive adults by lowering total homocysteine levels. It is important to keep in mind that elevated homocysteine levels are a risk factor for vascular disease.

More studies are still being carried out to learn about the anti-hypertensive effects of folic acid. However, its use is highly recommended.
