We all know about the stunning beaches in the South of Thailand and the wonderful mountains in the northern part of the country, indeed, prior to the pandemic, more than 30 million tourists entered Thailand in 2018. There is, however, another side to Thailand, namely the National Parks, all of which have much to offer the visitor.

Protected National Parks

There are no less than 147 national parks In Thailand, all protected by royal heritage and a lot of money is spent on ensuring nature is unaffected by human activity, with amazing flora and fauna, not to mention the diverse wildlife.

Here are some of the most popular Thai National Parks,

  • Khao Lak – Located in the southern province of Phang Gna, you can stay in the Grand Mercure Khao Lak Bangsak and experience the wondrous beaches and forests of this unique national preserved area. Great for those that love forests and beaches, with limestone cliffs that overlook the blue seas.
  • Kao Yai – Located in Korat province, this is one of the most popular destinations for many Bangkokians, who come to spend the weekend in this beautiful park. You can book a camping spot online and as you would expect in Thailand, almost everything is available, with the exception of alcohol, which is not permitted within the boundaries of a national park. Khoa Yai also enters into Saraburi, Prachinburi and Nakhon Nayok provinces.
  • Doi Inthanon – Very much the jewel of the north of Thailand, Doi Inthanon is also the name of the highest mountain in the country. Situated 60km from Chiang Mai, the park is the home to hilltribes; the Karen and the Hmong, where there are around 4,500 people living up to an elevation of 2,500m. There are many waterfalls in this protected area and for Thai people, Doi Inthanon is a place to visit at least once in your life. While it is nice to be surrounded by nature, everyone should experience 5-star hotel accommodation at least once in their life.
  • Erawan National Park – Another firm favourite with the locals, Erawan has numerous levels of waterfalls and is located in Khanchanaburi Province. The Erawan Falls are the major attraction and you can easily book tours online and there are some stunning deep lakes in this region, where you can stay on a houseboat.

The annual rainfall is very high in this region, as it receives monsoons from both the east and west coast and the year-round rain feeds the rich flora and fauna to be found in one of the most beautiful of all the Thai National Parks.
