(Newswire.net — March 16, 2021) Orlando, FL — A stroke is notoriously known to produce a range of undesirable health consequences, which include complications affecting the bones. The good news is that there are interventions found to work wonders in inhibiting the condition from further wreaking havoc on health.

A new study has shown that intake of folate as well as vitamin B12 following a stroke can decrease the risk of hip fractures. It is worth realizing that the likelihood of a hip fracture is found to be higher by two to four times following a stroke.

However in this research, it has been found that due to the use of B vitamins, the risk of hip fracture decreased by nearly five-fold.

The finding appears in the March 2 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

The investigators suggest that these vitamins might decrease fracture risk due to their ability to lessen levels of homocysteine. It is worth realizing that higher levels of these amino acid are a risk factor for both stroke and bone fractures.

Study author Dr. Yoshihiro Sato, says that stroke patients should routinely intake these vitamins to avoid hip fractures, because hip fractures are associated with more deaths, disabilities and medical costs than all other osteoporosis-related fractures combined.

Dr. Yoshihiro Sato is a professor at Hirosaki University School of Medicine in Japan.

It is worth realizing that B vitamins have long been reputed to work wonders in protecting and enhancing bone health. Scientists even suggest they are needed to keep the bones stronger.

More particularly, B vitamins aid in fighting low bone density or osteoporosis. It is worth being warned that their deficiencies have even been associated with the heightened likelihood of fractures.

These B vitamins may come in handy for individuals who want to increase their protection against osteoporosis. It is worth realizing that they can be found in nutritious foods, such as fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans, breakfast cereals, and fortified grains and grain products.

Experts also recommend intake of fortified cereals, beans, poultry, fish, and some vegetables as well as fruits, especially dark leafy greens, papayas, oranges, and cantaloupe.
