(Newswire.net — March 22, 2021) Orlando, FL — Today, more and more researchers are investigating into the various aspects of male sexual health and these include erectile dysfunction.

A study called “Genetic variation in the SIM1 locus is associated with erectile dysfunction,” was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

It was spearheaded by Eric Jorgenson, PhD, a research scientist at Kaiser Permanente Northern California’s Division of Research.

In this research, it has been found that a vital advancement in the understanding a person’s genetics may be helpful in identifying what underlies erectile dysfunction.

The team of researchers has for the first time discovered a particular place in the human genome that increases the risk of ED.

It is worth mentioning that this sexual health issue pertains to the inability to obtain and maintain an erection needed to perform sexual activity. It is not just common but also a costly condition among men in the middle and older ages.

Health care authorities have long warned that such a condition is associated with many causes, which include hormonal, neurological, and vascular factors.

The study findings have shown variations in genetic locus, which is a specific place in the genome, are significantly linked with a heightened risk of erectile dysfunction.

It is worth noting that the investigators ruled out some other risk factors, such as differences in how men describe their ED or body mass index (BMI).

Erectile dysfunction does more damage than just wreaking havoc on sexual health. It is important to realize that today, more and more researchers are looking into the best possible ways to help reduce ED rates.

The use of plant-based healing compounds has been found to be potentially useful. It is worth mentioning that one of these compounds is curcumin, which is a phytochemical found in turmeric.

A study was published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine by the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

The study findings reveal that the topical application of turmeric aided in the treatment of erectile disorders. This has been found to be due to the curcumin it contains.

One of the most popular agents of curcumin is its anti-inflammatory properties. The use of this phytochemical has been particularly found helpful in enhancing blood flow to the genitals and hip vasodilation.

While more studies are still being encouraged to learn about the ED-fighting benefits of curcumin, its use is highly recommended nowadays.
